This traditional museum, settled in the St John the Baptist's old church, a gothic church of the end of the XVth century, was created by Joseph Vaylet (1894-1982), a " majoral" of the " Félibrige" (Provencal poetic association), who along his life gathered collections and created an association to continue his work.

On the first floor, it showed a collection of bedside fonts, wardrobes, pieces of poterry and tools of old trades. On ground floor, it showed several display cabinets (weapons, music instruments, religious objects, paleontology, mineralogy, pieces of pewter, etc...) as the reconstruction of a Rouergue's inside of XIXth century

This museum is settled in the building of the ancient prisons built in 1838. Like this, visitors could understand the life of prisoners in XIXt century
when dungeons and prison wards were replaced with single cells.

Penitents Chapel

The chapel shelters a little religious art museum, fruit of the works of the members of the Penitents Chapel Safeguard Association to restore and be revived that building of the Espalion's patrimony.

 

 

Chapel is dedicated to the Christ's Circumcision, a scene showed on the painting of the altar. Two other paintings, on both sides of the altar, are also devoted to the Christ's childhood with Nativity and Magi Adoration.
